Headaches and Chiropractic Care

Headache and Migraine Triggers:

- Foods - Aged cheeses, salty foods and processed foods. Skipping meals or fasting also can trigger headaches

- Food additives - Alcohol or highly caffeinated beverages

- Stress - mainly caused from sensory stimuli, like bright lights, sun glares, or loud sounds

- Strong smells - perfume, paint thinner, or secondhand smoke

- Intense workouts - changes in wake-sleep pattern or changes in the environment

Symptoms:

-Throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation usually just on one side of the head

-Nausea

-Vomiting

-Extreme sensitivity to light and sound

The majority of headaches are a result of muscle tension in the neck. In today’s day and age, with most Americans taking part in more sedentary activities than ever, we are seeing more and more muscle tension in the neck, upper back, and scalp, as well as an increase in joint irritation. With this comes chronic headaches and migraines.

Chronic headaches and migraines come with a lot of negative effects and interfere with your day-to-day lifestyle. Visiting Dr. Lambert can turn your lifestyle around with simple and painfree treatments.

-Perform spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustments to improve spinal function and alleviate the stress on your system

-Massage therapy to ease muscle tension that leads to chronic headaches

With regular care and treatment from Dr. Lambert will result in an overall reduction of in migraine symptoms. After receiving treatment there are numerous things you can do in order to ease your symptoms.  

-Take a break and stretch every 30 minutes to one hour, if you spend extended amounts of time in one fixed position, like sitting in front of a computer. Stretches should take your head and neck through a comfortable range of motion.

-Low-impact exercise may help relieve the pain associated with primary headaches. If you are prone to throbbing headaches, avoid heavy exercise

-Engage in aerobic exercise for 20-30 mins a few times a week, like walking, bicycling, or swimming .

-Drink at least 8-ounce glasses of water a day to help avoid dehydration

-Applying ice packs or cold compresses to the head

-Create a consistent sleep schedule

- Change your diet and establish a regular eating pattern and meal times. Foods that increase tension that stem from headaches include:

-Chocolate

-Alcohol

-Preservatives

-Cheese

-Nitrates

-Improve posture to create less tension

-Quit smoking

-Apply a cold compress

-Take a hot shower
